l'Histoire de Madame de Mucy

Description:

The story of Mme de Mucy was published as one of several ancilary histories in the memoirs of Theodore Agrippa d'Aubigne. It proports to be written by "Mademoiselle D***". The two volume Memoires, is said to be written by Edmé Aubertin, Guillaume Valdory, and Monsieur Paul Scarron.

The archives at the  Old Bailey show that books sold by T. Payne in Pater-Noster-Row include:

The Adventures of the celebrated Madam de Muci , with Count d'Albert, a noted Lord in France, and Celsus , a late English Nobleman. Written by her Woman. Translated from the French Original, just publish'd at Amsterdam, by John Frederick Bernard . Pr. 1 s. 6 d.

Which suggests that it is Valdory, specifically, who wrote this history.

In this book, we find an interesting version of the story of la Maupin, d'Albert and the Elector of Bavaria that is a bit different than seen anywhere else. In it, d'Albert's affair with Madame de Luxembourg forced him to Brussels, and there, among his many conquests, he became involved with la Maupin, a famous singer of the Opera of Brussels. She was at the time the inamorata of the Elector of Bavaria, who took exception, and so d'Albert was forced to leave Brussels, if I have the right of it.
