Biography

Benserade was an important poet and librettist in Louis XIV's court. His life barely overlaps la Maupin's career and it is not clear that they have any real connection, however, the love letter from la Maupin to comte d'Albert is sometimes attributed to Benserade.

In 1698, Charles de Sercy dedicated a posthumous collection of the work of Benserade to his patron, the Comte d’Armagnac. The collection includes many poems that were unknown at the time of the poet's death.
