M. Maupin

Biography

Little is known of M. Maupin. He was from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, must have been a bourgeois and took a position as a clerk or tax collector. He spent very little time living with Mme. Maupin as husband and wife and died in about 1701. His marriage was arranged by the bride's lover and apparently was not expected to end the affair. He is also said to have tolerated her affairs when they were reunited near the end of his life.
