André Wernesson Liancour

Biography

Reportedly, Liancour was one of la Maupin's fencing instructors.

Michael E. Moss points out at the Order of the Seven Hearts forum that if Liancour had, as the King required, 20 years of experience teaching starting at the age of 22 in order to attain the rank of master of arms, by the time he published his manual in 1686, then he must have been born no later than 1646, and died at the age of 86. On the other hand, I had read somewhere (which I will have to find) that he is unsual in having prublished his manual early in his career.
