Biography

Marachel was a washed-up actor with a drinking problem who met la Maupin on the road, perhaps in Poitiers. He recognized her native skill and told her she could be a star of the Opera. Reportedly he trained her for a while before succumbing to drink.

The way the chronology works out, they should have met in about 1689.
