Maximilian Emanuel

Biography

Maximillian II Emanuel was the Elector of Bavaria and father of Emperor Charles VII.

The word we translate as "Elector" is "Kurfurst", which descends from the words for "to chose" and "first" through the word for "prince". They were the regional German kings who elected the King of Germany, who when crowned by the Pope became the Holy Roman Emperor.

Max Emanuel was an enemy of France's during the Nine Years War and an ally during the War of Spanish Succession.
